The greek word that "widow" was derived from is "chera".  Chera described a situation - not a person.  The word means to be without a husband.

For that reason, we serve women who are without a husband for many reasons - including the death of a spouse and divorce with or without children.  Take a look at some of these statistics for Metro-Denver - or check out the video!

• Approximately 30% of the households led by single femails in Jefferson county live on incomes below the Federal poverty threshold of $22,239
• The number of Colorado single mothers living in poverty increased from 30.4% in 2008 to 37.1% in 2010  For those with children under the age of five, that percentage rose to 50.2%
• After the monthly costs rent, food and childcare - there is literally nothing left
• There are 84,000 widows in the metro Denver area. 
• Many widows live soley on social security - about $600 per month
• Many are widows of our heroic war veterans - left alone
