Just recently we met Sonya, a single mom with a three-year-old daughter. Two years ago, Sonya found herself in a hard place with very few options. Because of Sonya’s desire to improve her situation, she was accepted into Warren Village—a nonprofit organization HoTC works with from time to time. Warren Village provides single mothers with a place to live along with practical training.
After leaving Warren Village a year later, Sonya found a place for her daughter and herself to live. She recently found a good job and began training. Just a few days into the five-week course her car broke down. All employees going through the training knew that if they could not attend—even for a day, their job would be lost. This sounds harsh but it was the reality.
She heard about Hands of The Carpenter from her advocate at Warren Village and called us. Soon thereafter we met and are now blessed to say that we have a car repair shop lined up to provide the needed repairs so all of the progress Sonya has made (working through tough issues, finding a home, finding a new job, etc) isn’t lost.
It creates a special feeling inside of us here at HoTC when we get to be a part of someone’s life story like this one. When a mother like Sonya is doing her best to provide for her child and just “needs a lift” over a couple bumps in the road, we are very thankful to be chosen to help.
